Hi all. When it comes to roomers in your workplace, how serious do you take them? Like for example there's roomers going around in my workplace that since verizon is putting a call center in india that they will either shut us down or lay a bunch of us off. That's why part of the reason I'm looking for another job. So what are your thoughts? If you hear of job cuts/shutdowns would you start looking for work, or would you just wait until the roomers come true.

Rumours. Sorry, but that was bugging me. I think it would depend on how likely I thought the rumour was. Does your company have a history of outsourcing and shutting down branches? Have you been working there long enough to reasonably expect some job security?

Troy, that's a tough one. First, I'd always try and keep an up-to-date resume handy. You never know when you might need it. Second, I'd look and see how serious I thought the rumors were. If there's a history of such a move, it might be worth considering your options a little more seriously. Also, I don't know if Verizon is a union shop, but you might check some of these out with the Communications Workers of America or the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. I remember a few years back that they represented Bell ATlantic, which is part of Verizon now. Anything else I can do, if you want to private mail me, feel free to do so.
